A Lasting Legacy

You can change a Veteran’s life beyond today by leaving a gift in your Will.

For over 80 years, compassionate and caring Australians like you, have transformed the lives of Veterans, ex-Service men and women, and their families with one of the most generous acts - leaving a gift in their Will to Carry On (Victoria).

These generous gifts have helped Carry On provide essential long-term accommodation, welfare, financial and crisis support to Veterans and ex-Service doing it tough. A gift in your Will can show how much you care for those who have sacrificed so much by serving our country.

As your Will is a very important document it should be prepared by a solicitor or trustee company to ensure it is legally valid and properly reflects your intentions.

There are many different types of gifts you can make in your Will to ensure that your loved ones are provided for and that you can support Veterans and their families after you are gone. Here are some examples of the ways you can support Veterans through your Will:

A Residual Gift
A residual gift is often the best option if you have a family to provide for as it ensures your relatives and friends are looked after first. Leaving a residual gift means that after your Will has made all necessary provision for relatives, friends and debtors, the residue of your estate (remaining assets) are passed to the organisation and/or individuals named as your residuary beneficiaries. Your residual gift can also be left as a specific percentage of the residue of your estate.

A Percentage Gift
Leaving a specific percentage of your estate assures that inflation will not reduce the value of the gift you intended for Carry On (Victoria).

A Specific Gift
You can gift specific items of property (such as jewellery, shares, artwork or real estate) in your Will provided that we are given permission to sell the item/s to raise cash funds. Carry On Victoria can also be the sole beneficiary of a life insurance policy.

A Cash Gift
You can gift a specific sum of money to Carry On Victoria in your Will. Please note that this option is susceptible to value reduction due to inflation over the years so it will need to be reviewed regularly.

The following suggested wording for leaving a gift in your Will to Carry On Victoria is provided for the guidance of your solicitor or trustee.

Suggested wording for your Will:

‘I (insert name here) bequeath to Carry On (Victoria) ABN 67 004 508 936 for its general purposes (or name a specific purpose, such as accommodation, welfare, financial or crisis support, future needs), [Choose and insert the appropriate statement from the list below]
1. the whole of my estate
2. (insert number) percentage of my estate
3. the residue of my estate
4. the amount of $ (insert the value of your gift in cash)
5. my (insert name of asset)

free of all duties, and the receipt of the Secretary or other authorised officer for
the time being shall be a complete and sufficient discharge for the Executor(s).’

Words in italics to be adjusted in accordance with the testator’s wishes.

However, you choose to leave a gift in your Will, we will remember you.

To learn more about the difference your lasting gift can make please contact Carry On Victoria on (03) 9626 2648 or email [email protected]

    Marathon Effort

We all need help in different ways. There was a moment when I actually needed some assistance which was met by a representative of Carry On (Victoria) . Even though the help I needed was quite small, and maybe even insignificant in the eyes of the person who assisted, when we receive help at a time of need it will invariably leave an indelible impact in how we remember the support rendered.

Now, it is my turn to "pay it forward". My circumstances were unique, as is the case with anyone

We’re all guilty of a little too much device time, but there’s a fine line between habit and addiction. Did you know the average person checks their phone every 12 minutes on a normal day?  That’s 5 times an hour, 120 times a day and let’s not even do the maths on how many times a year that turns out to be!

In Australia, approximately 12 out of 100 people will have post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) at some point in their life. With PTSD affecting anybody who has been through traumatic events, including a serious accident, natural disasters or assault, war veterans are inevitably at higher risk for PTSD than the general population.
